Un Amico - Ennio Morricone

Only Quentin Tarantino can fuck around with history and get away with it. To be straight-forward, Inglourious Basterds is a masterpiece of modern cinema. The film is perfect from beginning to end; every scene more suspenseful than the last, every actor exploding with personality, and every shot meticulously constructed and utterly beautiful. After having watched it five times I was at the edge of my seat, my mouth agape as I was completely enthralled by how amazing this film is. One aspect that blows me away about Inglourious Basterds is the music. It is inspired by spaghetti westerns of the seventies. Remember Clint Eastwood in his height of badassness? A man with no name roaming around the desolate lands of the American west. The Sergio Leone films with Ennio Morricone iconic score which one song, the theme from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is still a recognizable tune to this day that is synonymous with westerns. Before spaghetti westerns (Westerns made by Italians, filmed in Italy, with Italian crews but American actors), the music in westerns were an overlooked affair, they didn’t play much importance in the film itself. But then came the genius of Ennio Morricone which elevated films about cowboys into epic proportions. The scope was no longer small, but grandiose. The themes of the story were no longer limited to it’s western setting but instead became more personal. Ennio Morricone’s brilliant music changed the way we look at movies forever. The cinematic experience went from isolated stories limited to the fantasy realm of the silver screen to an experience that is felt within you, a journey that you became apart of. And that’s what I love so much about Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, it captured that magic and made into a truly dazzling cinematic adventure.

“You probably heard we ain’t in the prisoner-takin’ business; we in the killin’ Nazi business. And cousin, Business is a-boomin’.”

THIS MOVIE IS MY LOVE!
